Configurer Virtualbox pour tester IE7, IE8 sous Debian GNU/Linux

Ces temps-ci je dois faire beaucoup de validation de sites web pour m'assurer qu'ils sont corrects sous Internet Explorer 7 et 8. Jadis j'utilisais ies4linux (et wine), mais c'est lent et peu fiable (polices de caractères), et ne supporte que IE6.

Après avoir lu ce guide (pour Ubuntu), j'ai installé Virtualbox, un émulateur qui fonctionne sous GNU/Linux, Windows et Mac.

Voici comment l'installer pour Debian:

Le package Debian va s'occuper de créer le bon groupe (vboxusers) et compiler les trucs nécessaires pour le noyau.

  • Puis télécharger les images Windows de Microsoft: Internet Explorer Application Compatibility VPC Image. Par exemple, pour IE7 sous Vista, il faut IE7-VIS1.exe, IE7-VIS2.rar et IE7-VIS3.rar. Attention, les fichiers font à peu près 700Mo chaque.
  • Décompresser l'archive (unrar x IE7-VIS1.exe)
  • Démarrer VirtualBox (du menu gnome ou de la ligne de commande)
  • Passer à travers l'assistant de configuration, aller chercher l'image VHD, démarrer.

Ensuite, de Windows, on peut changer la résolution par le panneau de contrôle.

I looking forward to trying this, but it's not working for me. Despite the fact that they time out after three months, Microsoft's images now seem to also require authentication with a valid Windows license key. The EULA says:

You may install and use one copy of the software on your device of which you are running a validly licensed copy of Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Virtual Server. You may not change or convert the virtual hard disk image from the VHD format.
